Ankaran among Slovenia Green’s good sustainable practice examples for 2026

Once again this year, Slovenia Green has highlighted interesting and inspiring sustainable practices from Slovenian destinations. Examples that attracted particular attention in the 2026 assessments include measures in the areas of sustainable mobility, support for local businesses, waste reduction, cleaner surroundings and improved visitor management.

Among them is Ankaran’s Become a Supporter initiative, through which we present the rules of conduct in the Debeli rtič Landscape Park to visitors in a simple and accessible way – both on land and at sea. By signing the pledge, visitors can also join the efforts to preserve its natural values.

When presenting Ankaran, the author of the article, Matevž Hribar, particularly highlighted the clear and accessible way in which visitors are informed about the rules of conduct in the protected area. At the time the article was published, the pledge had already been signed by 1,524 supporters.

Among other things, supporters pledge to follow the designated paths when visiting the area, keep dogs on a leash, take their waste with them and leave their vehicles in designated parking areas. The pledge also includes responsible behaviour at sea, including navigating motorised vessels outside the protected area, anchoring appropriately and respecting the prohibition on fishing and collecting marine organisms within the protected area.

The Debeli rtič Landscape Park covers 340 hectares, 160 hectares of which are at sea, and forms part of the Natura 2000 network. Through the Become a Supporter initiative, we aim to preserve its natural values and landscape for future generations.
